MR imaging of pineocytoma: report of two cases.

چکیده
The patient was a 36-year-old woman who manifested no remarkable abnormalities except headache, which suggested elevated intracranial pressure. Serum human chorionic gonadotropin and alphafetoprotein values were normal. CT and MR examinations were performed (Figs. 1 A-1 D). CT revealed a solid tumor with punctate calcification on the pineal region. MR distinctly marked the presence of the tumor on the pineal region extending to the posterior part of the third ventricle. By angiography, only a mass effect was seen without visualization of tumor vessels or tumor stain . As radiation therapy (30 Gy) had no effect in reducing the size of the tumor, surgery was performed. The tumor was solid . Light microscopy showed medullary cell proliferation with rosette formation and incomplete lobulation, which is identical histologically to pineocytoma. Electron microscopic examination (Fig . 1 E) confirmed that this tumor was a pineocytoma with neuronal differentiation [2).

Proton MR spectroscopy and preoperative diagnostic accuracy: an evaluation of intracranial mass lesions characterized by stereotactic biopsy findings.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE MR imaging has made it easier to distinguish among the different types of intracranial mass lesions. Nevertheless, it is sometimes impossible to base a diagnosis solely on clinical and neuroradiologic findings, and, in these cases, biopsy must be performed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hypothesis that proton MR spectroscopy is able to improve preoperative...
متن کاملPineocytoma mimicking a pineal cyst on imaging: true diagnostic dilemma or a case of incomplete imaging?
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Pineocytomas have been described as well-circumscribed, homogeneously enhancing masses. However, there is considerable variability in this appearance, and certain pineocytomas may have a predominantly cystic appearance on imaging. This has led some to suggest that differentiation between pineocytomas and pineal cysts may not be possible. We have attempted to determine if ...
متن کاملAnt-induced Alopecia: Report of two cases
Localized scalp hair loss has different causes which alopecia areata, trichotillomania, tinea capitis and early lupus erythematosus are the most important ones. There are several reports of localized alopecia after tick and flea bites and bee stings, but there is only one report of ant-induced alopecia in the literature. We report herein two cases of alopecia induced by ants of genus Phei...

Introduction: All of the Imaging modalities have advantages and disadvantages alone. So if we want to have the best and perfect image, combining these modalities produces something we desired. PET-MR images consist of morphologic and metabolic data. MRI and PET provide high spatial and contrast resolution and high sensitivity and molecular information respectively. Hybrid PET-...
متن کاملPineocytoma with diffuse dissemination to the leptomeninges
Pineal parenchymal tumors are rare. Of the three types of pineal parenchymal tumors, pineocytomas are the least aggressive and are not known to diffusely disseminate. In this paper, we report the successful treatment of a case of pineocytoma with diffuse leptomeningeal relapse following initial stereotactic radiotherapy. A 39-year-old female presented with headaches, balance impairment, urinary...
